EV Charger Installation in Hackney and Tower Hamlets
Hackney and Tower Hamlets are mostly flats and terraced houses, and few homes have a private drive. That does not rule out an electric car, but it changes what kind of charging works. This post covers the options in East London and what to check before fitting a charger.
Areas we cover
We fit chargers across Hackney, Dalston, Stoke Newington, Clapton, Homerton, Bethnal Green, Bow, Poplar, Wapping, Whitechapel, Limehouse and the Isle of Dogs. Our main blog covers electrical work in Hackney and Bow and Mile End.
Houses with off street parking
Where a house does have a drive, a forecourt or a garage, a standard 7 kW charger is usually straightforward. We check the supply, earthing and consumer unit first, as many older terraces still have boards with no spare way or no suitable RCD protection.
Flats and blocks with car parks
Many newer blocks in Bow, Poplar and the Isle of Dogs have underground or courtyard parking. Chargers there need the agreement of the freeholder or managing agent, and often a check of the building's spare capacity. Our guide to EV charger grants and building regulations for flats covers the funding side.
No parking at all
If you park on the street, lamp post and kerbside chargers are usually the best option. Never run a cable across the pavement. Our post on EV charging for flats without a drive sets out the choices.
Businesses and workshops
Many workshops, studios and small businesses in Hackney Wick and the old warehouses have three phase supplies, which can support faster chargers for vans and pool cars. Our guide to three phase EV chargers explains when that makes sense.
Energy North Ltd installs home, workplace and car park chargers across North, East and West London with City & Guilds certified electricians. See our EV charger installation page to book a survey.
