EV Charger Installation in Brent and Harrow
Brent and Harrow cover a wide range of homes, from Victorian terraces in Kilburn and Willesden to the 1930s semis and detached houses of Kenton, Pinner and Stanmore. Further out, most homes have a drive, which makes a home charger an easy upgrade. This post covers what to check before fitting one in North West London.
Areas we cover
We fit chargers across Wembley, Kingsbury, Neasden, Willesden, Kenton, Harrow, Wealdstone, Pinner, Rayners Lane, Stanmore and Edgware. Our main blog covers electrical work in Wembley and Brent and Harrow.
Semis and detached houses with drives
On most suburban drives, a 7 kW charger on the front wall close to where you park is the simplest option. We check the main fuse, earthing and consumer unit first. Many houses here have had large extensions and loft conversions, so the board can already be busy. Our guide on whether you need a new consumer unit for an EV charger explains what we look for.
Long drives and detached garages
Where the car parks well away from the house, a post mounted charger or a charger on the garage can work better than one on the front wall. The cable route matters, and we plan it before quoting. Our post on a post or wall mounted charger covers the choice.
Terraces and flats
In the denser parts of Brent, many homes have no off street parking. Never run a cable across the pavement. Our guide to EV charging without a drive sets out the alternatives.
What we often find
- Older consumer units with no RCD protection.
- Main fuses with little spare capacity after extensions and electric showers.
- Garages fed by old cables that are not suitable for a charger.
- Earthing that needs checking before a charger can be fitted.
