EV Charger Installation in Camden and Westminster
Camden and Westminster are some of the hardest parts of London for home EV charging. Most homes are flats, mansion blocks or terraced houses with no drive, and parking is mostly on the street or in managed car parks. Charging is still possible, but the right option depends on where you park. This post covers the choices in Central and North West London.
Areas we cover
We fit chargers across Camden Town, Kentish Town, Hampstead, Belsize Park, West Hampstead, Kilburn, St John's Wood, Marylebone, Maida Vale, Paddington, Pimlico and Victoria. Our main blog covers electrical work in Islington and Camden and Westminster.
Houses with off street parking
Some larger houses in Hampstead, St John's Wood and Highgate have drives, garages or mews parking. Here a 7 kW charger is usually straightforward, though conservation area and listed building rules can affect where it goes on the front of the house. We check the supply, earthing and consumer unit first. Our guide on whether you need a new consumer unit for an EV charger explains what we look for.
Mansion blocks and managed car parks
Many blocks have basement or courtyard parking. Chargers there need the agreement of the freeholder or managing agent, and often a check of the building's spare capacity and a load management system shared between bays. Our guide to grants and building regulations for flats covers the funding side.
On-street parking
If you park on the street, public kerbside and lamp post chargers are usually the answer. Never run a cable across the pavement. Our post on EV charging without a drive sets out the options.
Offices and small businesses
Businesses with their own parking can install workplace chargers for staff and visitors. Our post on workplace EV chargers covers what is involved.
Energy North Ltd installs home, workplace and car park chargers across North, East and West London with City & Guilds certified electricians. See our EV charger installation page to book a survey.
